Fire Trucks and Ice Cream

Tommy has loved his fire truck since the day we brought it home for him. In fact, I think I could safely say that it's his #1 favorite toy (followed closely by his bucket-o-blocks, his old-school rotary phone and Noah's Ark). He loves to push the truck around the apartment, take it outside on the deck, fill up the seat with blocks and push the buttons until we almost want to pull our hair out (each button plays a different song).

Here he is taking Bristol Bear for a ride out on the porch. BB looks a little nervous and he probably should be -- Tommy has a tendency to get a little crazy behind the wheel and crash into walls repeatedly and on purpose. Hopefully this is one of those phases he'll grow out of before his 16th birthday.

One of Tommy's new favorites is ice cream. We tried giving him a bite a few weeks ago, but in response got a wrinkled nose and a "What the heck was that?" look. On our way back from the bike ride last weekend, we stopped at a tiny ice cream stand and gave Tommy another taste. This time, we still got a wrinkled nose, but also an outstretched hand for more. He proceeded to try everyone's ice cream which included black cherry, vanilla and rainbow sherbet. Although he seemed to enjoy all three, I would say that he liked the vanilla the best. To that I respond with "How boring" though it's no surprise seeing that Will (when he eats ice cream at all) pretty much only eats vanilla. Like father like son. Hopefully one day Tommy will learn to enjoy more sophisticated flavors such as "overloaded waffle cone" or "bubble gum". One can only hope.

I end the post today with a close-up of our sweet little guy. Does it look like he's thinking, "Aw Mom, not another picture!"? I hope not - there will be many, many more to come! Who could resist capturing that face on "film" for all eternity?!

Send Tommy to Aunt Molly's house for a weekend...he'll come home with a true appreciation for frozen desserts. He be very "high brow" in his ice cream selections--passing up the traditional vanilla & chocolate for flavors like pistachio, oatmeal cookie crunch and lavender-lemon. ;)
